Rex Gress & Sons began in 1960 when Rex Sr and sons Tom and Rex bought a trenching machine. This was one of the 1st trenchers made, It was made similar to a garden tiller, walking along behind, to operate it. Rex Sr, at the time, was a partner in Gress Brothers, a larger excavation company in Washington, Indiana. Being this was such a small machine, it began as a small sideline business. In the time following, the trencher quickly became a hit with the farmers and the construction industry. It could install waterlines, gas lines, electric lines, sewer lines, anything that could be done in a small trench without excavating a large hole. Like most things, trenchers improved and got bigger and better, and the business began to grow into a full time work. Rex Sr passed away in 1966. Tom and Rex Jr continued to do the trenching, adding a backhoe as the business grew. In 1970 Rex Jr purchased Tom's half of the business, the name continued on because Rex Jr also had two sons. Since that time other equipment has been added and the business has continued to grow, branching out into different aspects of the construction industry. Through the years the business has build up a number of good customers, contractors, and utility companies. The company is well known for being able to take care of the projects of their customers in a quick, courteous, and professional way. We pride ourselves and our employees in always doing our jobs with a pleasing and Christian attitude and being reasonably priced. In the 1980's Rex Gress & Sons INC continued to grow, and the sons, Brett and Todd became involved in the business. They are continuing to run the business in the same professional and courteous way it has for years. The next generation is continuing with the addition of grandsons Derek and Blane Gress.
